When using EmailViewer with a GPRS connection, we recommend using an Internet access point rather than a WAP access point. With an Internet access point, you must specify 0.0.0.0 as your gateway IP address. In Tools -> Settings -> Connection -> Access points, create or edit an access point so that the "Access point name" refers to an Internet access point rather than a WAP access point, and set the "Gateway IP address" to 0.0.0.0. The access point name will vary depending on your carrier; here are some Internet access points that we know of:

Note: If you encounter the error message "No additional applications designed for your handheld were found", please click here. The BlackBerry section of our support FAQ documents many commonly-encountered installation and network connectivity issues.

Warning: Users with handheld code 3.6 and greater should take special care when configuring EmailViewer's network connectivity parameters. Due to split pipe, EmailViewer is permanently restricted to the first connection mode attempted, regardless if that attempt is successful or not.

By default, EmailViewer is configured to connect using your BlackBerry Enterprise Server with Mobile Data Service (MDS). If you do not have a BlackBerry Enterprise Server with Mobile Data Service enabled, you may try connecting over WAP. When running EmailViewer, select Settings and then Advanced to choose the connection method. The WAP settings will vary depending on your mobile operator; here are some that we know of:

Mobile operator GPRS APN WAP gateway IP WAP gateway port
AT&T Wireless (USA) proxy 10.250.250.250 9201
T-Mobile (USA) wap.voicestream.com 216.155.165.50 9201

You can contact your mobile operator to obtain the WAP settings. In most cases, you can also obtain the settings from your device through the following steps:

  1. From your BlackBerry's home screen, select the Options application.
  2. Highlight the entry for Service Book and open it by clicking the trackwheel.
  3. If there is an entry labelled "WAP Transport", highlight the entry, click the trackwheel, and select View. If there is no "WAP Transport" entry, you will need to contact your mobile operator to obtain your WAP settings.
  4. Click the trackwheel and select Show HRT.
  5. Click the trackwheel and select View.
  6. If your device uses GPRS, there should be a line beginning with "APN:". The remaining text on that line is your GPRS APN that you will need to enter in EmailViewer.
  7. Obtain your WAP gateway IP address and port from the "IP/Ports:" entry. The WAP gateway IP address is composed of everything before the first colon (":"). The WAP gateway port is the number following the first colon. For example, if the "IP/Ports:" entry is "10.250.250.250:9201:8205", then your WAP gateway IP address is 10.250.250.250, and your WAP gateway port is 9201.

If you are using a BlackBerry Enterprise Server with Mobile Data Service enabled, then you do not need to enter the WAP settings. Also please note that connections over WAP are not supported on the BlackBerry 6510 and may not be available with all mobile operators.
